Role overview
The West Region District Sales Manager for the Samson Division is a salary-exempt position focused on driving orders from distributors, customers, and national accounts so the territory can meet its sales targets. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining effective distribution coverage across the region and supporting profitable long-term growth through sound planning and budgeting.
For this opportunity, candidates based in the western United States are preferred.
What you will do
- Drive sales by contacting distributors and customers through phone calls and in-person visits across the assigned territory.
- Ensure the region has enough distribution coverage to support market reach and penetration.
- Organize weekly sales actions so key relationships and business opportunities receive timely attention.
- Make effective use of marketing and sales materials to support distributor success and grow Samson sales.
- Monitor and replenish literature as needed so sales opportunities are not missed.
- Spot opportunities for growth, including new distribution and expansion within existing accounts, and escalate them to the direct supervisor.
- Train distributor sales teams on product features and benefits so they can better sell to end customers.
- Communicate company policies, product lines, and programs clearly to distributors so they can use them effectively.
- Gather market intelligence on product needs, program ideas, national account potential, competitive activity, and distributor challenges or opportunities.
- Submit weekly reports covering sales activity and expenses.
- Develop early territory sales goals and spending estimates to help shape annual business planning.
- Maintain regular daily contact with distributors, customers, the regional manager, and customer service representatives, along with weekly interaction with the credit manager, customer service supervisor, and marketing coordinator.
Requirements
- High school completion is required.
- A Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a marketing focus is preferred.
- About 2 years of experience in the lubrication industry and/or automotive aftermarket is preferred.
- Previous success selling through distribution channels is important.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills are necessary.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Intermediate computer ability, including Microsoft Office and basic database work, is preferred.
- Availability for overnight travel is required, with frequency depending on territory size and business needs.
- A professional appearance is expected at all times.
- Business-casual attire is required, including khaki-style pants and a professional golf shirt or collared dress shirt.
