Overview
James Madison University's Facilities Management is seeking a dedicated Carpet Cleaning Technician to join their Business Services Housekeeping department. This full-time, non-exempt position operates mainly overnight hours and supports the upkeep and maintenance of all carpets across the campus facilities. This role is essential to university operations, with work during authorized closings required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform professional cleaning, maintenance, and minor repairs to campus carpets, adhering to university quality standards.
- Maintain equipment used in carpet care, conducting necessary repairs to ensure optimal functioning.
- Manage and implement the entrance mat and hard surface cleaning program.
- Maintain accurate records of chemical usage and repair activities to support inventory control and reorder processes.
- Respond to emergency water extraction needs promptly when required.
- Work assigned shifts Monday through Friday from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., with additional overtime during special events or adverse weather conditions.
Candidate Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of carpet cleaning methods and appropriate chemical use.
- Proficiency operating industrial truck-mounted cleaning equipment and related attachments.
- Availability for varying shifts and overtime hours.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be at least 19 years old, hold a valid driver's license with a minimum of two years’ driving experience, and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle report.

Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range between $34,000 and $36,000.
- Eligibility for overtime pay as per non-exempt status.
