Role Overview
Protera Health is hiring a full-time Athletic Trainer to support patients managing back, neck, and joint pain through a fully remote care model. In this role, you will act as a dependable point of contact for patients, helping them stay engaged, informed, and supported throughout their musculoskeletal care journey.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team made up of physicians, advanced practice providers, physical therapists, and wellness coaches. The position combines live virtual patient visits with ongoing asynchronous communication to help coordinate care and improve outcomes.

What You Will Do
- Act as the main guide and contact person for patients throughout their care experience.
- Lead virtual sessions that educate, encourage, and support patients in meeting their health goals.
- Help patients follow the individualized care plans created by the clinical team.
- Encourage adherence to home exercise programs and share guidance that supports healthier lifestyle habits.
- Spot issues that may reduce patient engagement and work on practical ways to improve participation.
- Track patient progress and raise any clinical concerns to the appropriate care team members.
- Educate patients on pain science, nutrition, sleep, ergonomics, stress control, behavior change, and other wellness topics relevant to musculoskeletal health.
- Work closely with the broader care team to support strong patient outcomes.
- Contribute to clinical conversations, quality improvement work, and other operational initiatives as needed.
Requirements
- Current certification as an Athletic Trainer (ATC).
- At least 2 years of experience in a healthcare role with direct patient interaction.
- Background in musculoskeletal or orthopedic care.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
- Experience handling a large volume of one-on-one patient interactions.
- Strong communication, organization, and time management abilities.
- Ability to educate patients effectively, build trust, and keep them motivated.
- Comfort using technology and adapting to new digital health tools.
- Dependable high-speed internet connection and a quiet, professional home workspace.
- Ability to work from within the United States.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience with virtual care or telehealth services.
- Exposure to digital health or startup healthcare environments.
