Role overview

Protera Health is hiring a Wellness Coach to support people dealing with back, neck, and joint pain. In this remote, full-time role, you’ll be a dependable point of contact for patients as they move through their musculoskeletal care journey, offering education, encouragement, and follow-through.

You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, advanced practice providers, and physical therapists. The role combines live virtual coaching with continued asynchronous support, helping patients stay engaged with care plans and get timely guidance throughout treatment.

What you will do

Act as a trusted guide and main contact for patients throughout their care experience.
Lead virtual coaching sessions that help patients understand their care plan, stay motivated, and work toward their health goals.
Support and reinforce the individualized treatment plans created by the clinical team.
Encourage adherence to home exercise routines and share resources that promote healthy habits.
Spot obstacles affecting patient participation and help find practical ways to improve engagement and results.
Track patient progress and escalate clinical concerns or meaningful changes to the right care-team member.
Educate patients on pain science, nutrition, sleep, ergonomics, stress management, behavior change, and other wellness topics that support MSK health.
Work closely with the wider care team to improve patient outcomes.
Take part in clinical conversations, quality improvement efforts, and operational work as needed.

The ideal candidate is compassionate, highly organized, self-driven, and comfortable in a fast-moving startup environment. You should enjoy building rapport, offering education and accountability, and contributing beyond routine tasks.

Required qualifications

Health Coach Certification.
At least 2 years of experience in a patient-facing healthcare position.
Background in virtual care or telehealth delivery.
Experience working with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Comfort handling a high volume of one-on-one patient interactions.
Strong communication, organization, and time-management abilities.
Proven ability to educate patients, build trust, and keep them motivated.
Comfort using technology and adapting to new digital health tools.
Reliable high-speed internet and a quiet, professional workspace at home.

Preferred qualifications

Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).
Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a closely related discipline.
Experience in musculoskeletal or orthopedic care.
Experience in digital health or a startup healthcare environment.
