SAP Functional Lead

About the Role

ASB is dedicated to helping New Zealanders get ahead by modernizing its banking platforms that impact almost every facet of customers' lives. We are seeking a seasoned SAP Functional Lead to be a vital contributor to a significant core banking transformation project. Our Transactional Banking platform is central to ASB, enabling real-time, always-on services for customers and staff.

In this pivotal role, you will lead the functional design and delivery associated with SAP Transactional Banking during a major system migration. You will work closely with delivery squads, architects, business stakeholders, and external partners to ensure success.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Customer Experience Owners, Business Analysts, and delivery teams to define and refine business requirements, epics, features, and user stories.
• Lead functional design efforts within SAP TRBK ensuring solutions align with business needs, comply with regulatory standards, and follow SAP best practices.
• Work alongside architects, engineers, vendors, and partners to design and implement high-quality SAP solutions.
• Create and review both high-level and detailed solution designs and secure design approvals.
• Support system build, testing, and deployment activities with development squads.
• Advocate for clean core SAP implementations and aid in audit and assurance processes.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to SAP Functional team members.
• Drive ongoing enhancements across customer and banker experiences by leveraging standard SAP and BTP out-of-the-box capabilities.

Expected Outcomes

• Collaborate closely with Squad BAs and stakeholders to understand, shape, and validate both business and system requirements.
• Design and configure SAP TRBK solutions that satisfy business needs, regulatory requirements, and adhere to SAP standards.
• Lead and mentor SAP Functional Engineers, offering technical guidance and daily support.
• Identify and implement process improvements that enhance functional delivery's efficiency and effectiveness.
• Support capability development across SAP teams and end users through training and knowledge sharing.
• Oversee testing and quality assurance to ensure solutions meet desired specifications.
• Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, providing status updates and incorporating feedback.
• Ensure all solution, design, and project documentation is accurate and current.
• Proactively recognize, manage, and resolve functional issues during implementation and ongoing support.
• Stay updated on SAP TRBK functional trends and apply learnings to advance ASB’s core banking solutions.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proven track record in designing and implementing SAP solutions within banking or financial services sectors.
• Deep expertise in SAP Banking Services; experience specifically with Transactional Banking (TRBK) is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with S/4HANA, SAP BTP, and Fiori technologies is advantageous.
• Experience operating in agile delivery settings.
• Strong capability to mentor and uplift SAP functional engineers.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills and confidence in navigating complex delivery landscapes.
• A continuous improvement mindset with a passion for SAP best practices and delivering quality outcomes.
