About the Role
The Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) is a civilian police force committed to safeguarding the UK's Defence community, assets, and capabilities. This role focuses on managing rosters and workforce scheduling for the MDP based in AWE Reading, Berkshire. The office works closely with Defence personnel, US Visiting Forces, and other partners to ensure optimum staffing, compliance with policies, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain sickness records as directed by the station.
- Record and manage officers’ contractual hours, including adjustments for overtime and time off in lieu, and redirect queries about excessive hours or rostering errors to appropriate locations.
- Track and maintain training and course attendance, accounting for staffing shortfalls and minimum requirements.
- Create and share shortfall logs/spreadsheets tailored to each station’s unique needs.
- Manage annual leave records accurately.
- Offer direct guidance and support relating to the Government Rostering System (GRS).
- Input and maintain complete roster periods in GRS, ensuring adherence to Policy, Rules, and Guidance (PRG), accurate contractual hours, and alignment with business priorities.
- Modify rosters to accommodate last-minute sickness, leave, or detached duties, considering qualifications, work-life balance, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop expertise in PRG and Working Time Regulations (WTR) and apply these in daily rostering procedures.
- Deliver training on the rostering system to station staff through face-to-face sessions or other communication tools; adjust access permissions based on education and role requirements.
- Serve as a primary contact, cultivating professional relationships with various ranks and maintaining consistent communication.
- Utilize 5 protected learning days annually for personal development.

Additional Details
- Working hours are 37 hours per week.
- Salary is £27,866 per annum, with an £8,072 contribution from the Ministry of Defence toward the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
- Flexible work options may be possible subject to business needs; minimum 60% office presence required.
- No relocation expenses provided.
- A six-month probation period applies for new civil service employees.
- Travel expenses for interviews will not be reimbursed.
- This role does not provide visa sponsorship under the points-based immigration system.
- Successful candidates must undergo security vetting including a criminal record check and developed vetting clearance.
