Role overview

The General Labour – Packer position is responsible for packing fresh produce into the correct containers, applying accurate labels, and ensuring every package aligns with food safety, quality, and customer requirements. The role plays an important part in keeping supply chain operations efficient and productive.

Key duties

• Examine fresh vegetables visually, sort them by ripeness, size, and grade, and pack them according to customer requirements.
• Check produce and packaging for contamination risks, foreign objects, or pest-related issues, and escalate concerns to authorized personnel.
• Handle produce carefully to avoid bruising or other damage while meeting packing, quality, and food safety expectations set by the line leader and supervisors.
• Maintain regular communication with the production supervisor and report quality concerns, product damage, shortages, or packaging shortages.
• Clean and sanitize food-contact surfaces and equipment in the production area, keep the workspace tidy throughout the shift, and report equipment damage or mechanical problems to authorized staff.
• Follow SOPs, GMPs, food safety rules, health and safety requirements, and company policies and procedures at all times.
• Carry out any other duties or expectations assigned by the company.

Working conditions

Work hours may change based on business needs, so flexibility is required. The role is based in a refrigerated warehouse where temperatures vary, and the environment can be noisy because of packaging machinery and forklift activity. The job regularly involves standing, walking, bending, twisting, using hands to handle products or packaging, and reaching with the arms. Employees must be able to lift up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
