Oaks Wellington Hotel is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Demi Chef to contribute to their kitchen team on a full-time basis. This position primarily ensures smooth morning operations and supports overall meal preparation for all services, fostering an outstanding start to guests' days.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and assist in preparing and presenting meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner while maintaining consistency and high quality.
- Participate in developing and plating dishes with attention to detail and presentation standards.
- Ensure efficient functioning during busy morning service periods to support smooth operations.
- Uphold cleanliness, organization, and strict adherence to food safety and hygiene regulations at all times.
- Collaborate effectively with kitchen staff through clear communication and teamwork.
- Proactively enhance culinary skills, focusing especially on breakfast and early service preparation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a cooking or chef role or similar culinary position.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and occupational health and safety compliance.
- Able to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen setting.
- Flexibility to cover a variety of shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Self-driven with the capacity to work independently when necessary.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
Employment Details and Conditions
Employment type is full-time and permanent, reporting directly to the Executive Chef, with a notice period of four weeks. The role offers an expected minimum of 30 hours weekly, based at 89 Courtenay Place, Te Aro, Wellington, New Zealand.
Hourly remuneration ranges between $26 and $28 NZD, paid fortnightly by direct credit. The estimated annual salary is approximately $40,560 to $43,680 NZD, excluding KiwiSaver contributions.
Breaks include paid rest and unpaid meal breaks aligned with hours worked and employment law. Leave entitlements follow New Zealand regulations under the Holidays Act 2003.
Additional Terms and Policies
- Legal eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Reasonable work-related expenses are reimbursed; payroll deductions may occur with prior consultation.
- The employer may suspend or terminate employment, with immediate termination applicable for serious misconduct.
