Field Protection Engineer - Abu Dhabi, UAE

About the Role

Siemens is seeking a Field Protection Engineer to be based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The role involves testing and commissioning Siemens Protection & Automation systems throughout the UAE and Middle East. This position offers a chance to develop expertise in advanced protection and automation technologies while working on significant power transmission projects within a dynamic international team.

Key Duties

• Carry out testing and commissioning for Siemens Protection and Automation systems on assigned projects.
• Prepare System Acceptance Test (SAT) and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) documentation and protocols.
• Lead Pre-FAT and FAT activities with clients involving protection panels such as AVR, LIBBP, HIBBP, and TIP.
• Compose commissioning procedures, including method statements, necessary permits, and testing protocols.
• Support continuous improvement through product feedback and approval processes.
• Deliver technical presentations to clients and project stakeholders.
• Conduct fault analyses and perform root cause investigations on protection systems.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Electrical & Communication Engineering.
• Between 3 to 5 years of experience in commissioning Protection & Automation systems.
• Experience working within multicultural project environments, preferably within the Middle East or similar international markets.
• Hands-on familiarity with Siemens protection platforms such as SIPROTEC 4 and 5, and Reyrolle systems.
• Knowledge of power quality, substation automation, and IEC 61850 communication standards including GOOSE applications.
• Proficient in relay configuration tools, control logic development (BCPU / BCU), and configuration files (SCD / ICD / CID).
• Strong experience with industrial communication protocols related to protection systems.
• Advanced operational know-how of OMICRON testing equipment and Test Universe software (TU 4.20 or above).
• Experience testing protection modules covering distance, line differential, transformer differential, busbar protection, and more.
• Familiarity with digital substation technologies such as Process Bus integration and RTU systems.
