About the Role

Simberi Gold Company Limited, a part of the St Barbara Group, operates an open cut mine on the northernmost island of the Tabar group in New Ireland, Papua New Guinea. We aim to grow sustainably and positively impact communities connected to our operations. We are undergoing significant transformation and seek a Dispatch Operator to support our Mining team at our Simberi Operation on a permanent full-time basis. The position is based in Papua New Guinea and requires working a 14/7 roster with possible bases including Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar Islands. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and optimize truck haulage fleet performance using IVMS and dispatch algorithms, applying manual adjustments where needed.
  • Deliver precise work instructions to Load and Haul operators.
  • Advise line leaders on processes to realize sustainable improvements.
  • Ensure material transport aligns with Mine Engineering Daily Plans.
  • Collaborate with Mine Operations Data Analysts to update shift production data with high accuracy.
  • Work alongside Modular Mining and performance assurance teams to apply improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate mine model data, including roads, dumps, and maps to support dispatch systems.
  • Coordinate with Mine Maintenance for effective equipment transfer between operational states.
  • Liaise with Technology Specialists to report and address system defects promptly.
  • Verify Heavy Equipment Operators’ timely and accurate data entries into the fleet management system.
  • Continuously monitor mine hazards using systems and take appropriate actions.
  • Manage smooth transitions during operational shifts, blasting, stoppages, or industrial actions.
  • Provide detailed commentary in daily reports explaining deviations from plan.
  • Respond to emergency calls as per Mining Emergency Management Plan.
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering to assess and improve key performance indicators (KPIs).

Scheduling Duties

  • Oversee scheduling of trucks and equipment to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Ensure Mining Department plans support broader Company and site objectives.

People Management

  • Maximize staff resources, ensuring adequate training and skill development for assigned duties.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship, ensuring team outputs align with strategic goals.
  • Implement and monitor performance reviews and development plans for direct reports.
  • Manage disciplinary and reward activities for supervised staff.
  • Promote and model adherence to Occupational Health and Safety policies through safe work practices.
  • Identify training needs through consultation, working alongside the Training Department to deliver competency development.

Candidate Requirements

  • Completion of Grade Twelve (12) education at minimum.
  • At least two years of experience in a mining environment.
  • Practical knowledge of multiple shovel, drill, truck, and track operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting aptitude.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, especially for clear radio communications.
  • Conflict management capabilities including root cause analysis.
  • Natural leadership qualities with skills in coaching and performance management.
  • Highly self-motivated with a passion for technology.
  • Competent in task planning, setting and adjusting priorities using sound decision making.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities under pressure.
