About the Role
We are seeking a practical and hands-on individual to join our Estates team, ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will be organized, calm in emergencies, and dedicated to maintaining high standards to support the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. Experience in a similar caretaker or maintenance role, preferably within education or hospitality sectors emphasizing service delivery, is highly desirable. The position includes occasional driving of the school minibus; therefore, a clean driving license is required. Assistance with obtaining MIDAS training will be provided if the candidate does not hold a D1 license.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned maintenance and minor repairs on buildings, furniture, and equipment.
- Assist in setting up rooms, supporting school events, and managing contractor visits.
- Handle deliveries, organize storage, and undertake porterage tasks.
- Open, secure, and lock school buildings and grounds appropriately.
- Maintain cleanliness across site, grounds, and outdoor areas.
- Support health and safety compliance activities, including testing fire alarms and conducting Legionella checks.
- Carry out safety inspections, cleaning, and occasional driving of school vehicles.
- Contribute to capital projects and improvements around the site.
- Drive the school minibus as needed.
Candidate Profile
- A self-motivated individual who enjoys physical and practical work, taking pride in smooth operations.
- Experience in caretaking, maintenance, site support, or trade-related roles such as plumbing, carpentry, or painting.
- Physically active and comfortable undertaking varied manual tasks.
- Proactive, dependable, and adaptable, able to manage diverse duties independently and collaboratively.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Holds a clean driving license.
- Open to continuous professional development.
- Flexible working hours to accommodate a busy lettings schedule.
Qualifications and Training
- Possession of or willingness to undertake D1 license and MIDAS training.
- Skills or training in plumbing, carpentry/joinery, or painting.
