Self Checkout Attendant

About the Role

Working as a Self Checkout Attendant provides an excellent chance to develop key skills in retail management and customer service. The attendant ensures customers have a smooth and pleasant experience when using the self-service checkout stations by offering assistance and guidance throughout the process.

Primary Responsibilities

• Maintain the self checkout area in a clean, safe, and orderly manner, free from clutter, hazards, and spills.
• Promote Walmart’s initiatives including credit card offers, product protection plans, and charitable campaigns when appropriate.
• Support customers by helping them complete transactions confidently and efficiently while monitoring ongoing activities and resolving any issues related to cash or technology by escalating to management as needed.
• Respond promptly to Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) alarms, following prescribed protocols and completing necessary documentation for incidents.
• Manage the Scan & Go scanner equipment by ensuring devices are properly returned to storage after use.
• Be flexible with work schedule to cover different shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays in accordance with business demands.

Challenges and Physical Requirements

• Handle a high volume of tasks in a fast-paced environment, especially during overnight shifts, maintaining focus and energy throughout long hours.
• Perform physical activities such as prolonged standing, bending, and lifting items weighing up to 20 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Carry out repetitive activities like stocking and organizing products while maintaining attention to detail and store standards.

Compensation

The starting hourly wage for this position is $16.90.
