Role Overview
This position plays a vital role within yard management, ensuring the safe and efficient handling of empty shipping containers. Key duties involve maneuvering and stacking containers, coordinating truck loading and unloading, maintaining clear communication, and adhering strictly to health and safety protocols.
Daily Responsibilities
- Operate single and double stacker container hoists, stacking containers up to eight units high, with a maximum load capacity of 45,000 kilograms
- Efficiently relocate containers throughout the yard
- Manage loading and unloading processes for incoming and outgoing trucks
- Communicate effectively using two-way radio (RT) systems
- Comply with all safety procedures and guidelines
Work Schedule
The role operates exclusively on a night shift from Monday to Friday, running from 5:00 pm to 3:30 am.
Candidate Requirements
- Possession of a full New Zealand Class 1 driver's license is mandatory
- Prior experience with heavy vehicle or machinery operation is required
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic, dependability, and prioritizes safety
- Willingness and flexibility to work at various company sites as needed
- Proficiency in two-way radio (RT) communication for operational coordination
Important Note: Container hoists differ from standard forklifts; confidence and aptitude in handling large-scale heavy machinery are essential for this role.
Additional Employment Conditions
- Successful completion of pre-employment medical examination and drug screening
- Passing of Ministry of Justice (MOJ) criminal background check
