Job description

Role Overview

The Junior Officer - Packing is responsible for supervising and carrying out packing activities during shifts while strictly following cGMP and safety standards to meet production goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage shift packing operations by effectively utilizing available manpower and minimizing machine stoppages to fulfil daily targets.
  • Optimize usage of consumables in production processes to control costs.
  • Review and oversee all documentation related to packing activities; monitor critical in-process parameters in compliance with Batch Production Records (BPR) and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure all packing operations comply with GMP and safety guidelines by continuous process and documentation review.
  • Perform equipment qualification and calibration as scheduled, logging all results into the system accurately.
  • Create and update manufacturing records and BPR using SAP and CipDox software, ensuring timely and accurate data entry.
  • Maintain system integrity by managing online documentation and updating GMP required documents continuously.
  • Monitor adherence to safety protocols within the block during packing shifts, ensuring safe working conditions.
  • Coordinate with HSE department to guarantee the availability and correct usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure safety training attendance compliance by periodic reconciliation of records.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff and workers on packing operations, equipment handling, cGMP practices, documentation procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Contribute innovative ideas for process simplification to reduce cycle times and achieve higher efficiency with optimized resource utilization.
  • Simplify documentation practices to enhance accuracy and compliance with ALCOA principles (Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, Accurate).

Challenges Handled

  • Meeting shift production targets despite resource shortages by efficient task distribution.
  • Maintaining cGMP compliance during equipment downtimes through coordination with engineering and technical teams.

Interdepartmental Coordination

  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Control for batch releases daily as per packing schedules.
  • Partner with Engineering on preventive maintenance and equipment modifications as needed.
  • Work with Safety team for ongoing training and near-miss incident reporting.
  • Liaise with Store for daily dispensing plans and availability of packing materials.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance contractors for machine repairs when necessary.

Performance Metrics

  • Manage direct reports of three employees.
  • Achieve average volumes of 200 million units (FY2015-16) with handling approximately 200 BPRs and batches in packing.
  • Ensure dispatch of around 80 sales orders and maintain internal On-Time In-Full (OTIF) above 90%.
  • Achieve zero reportable accidents during packing operations.
  • Maintain zero errors in online documentation and 100% compliance with SOPs and safety regulations.

Decision-Making Authority

  • Allocate resources and distribute workload for each shift effectively.
  • Recommend facility upgrades, document modifications, and equipment changes to the Section Head - Packing.
  • Manage deviations and implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) under guidance of Section Head - Packing.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (B. Sc. Chemistry).
  • Between 1 to 5 years of relevant experience in packing operations with familiarity in Quality Management System (QMS) activities, equipment qualification, and associated documentation.
