Job description

About Yashil Ferma

Yashil Ferma is a joint venture between Uzbek and Hungarian partners developing a comprehensive poultry operation including breeder and broiler farms, hatchery, feed mill, slaughterhouse, processing plants, warehouses, and offices. Currently, the company is establishing its infrastructure and increasing production capabilities, offering a unique opportunity to build and implement a full Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) system from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage the EHS system across multiple sites including farms, hatchery, feed mill, slaughterhouse, processing plant, warehouses, offices, and construction locations.
  • Develop EHS policies, strategies, and annual plans aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Oversee contractor and construction-related EHS activities, including pre-qualification, plan approvals, permit-to-work procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO), non-conformance reports, stop-work orders, and site handover readiness verification.
  • Perform risk assessments tailored to poultry industry hazards such as ammonia and organic dust exposure, zoonotic diseases, biosecurity measures, feed dust explosion risks, confined spaces, and ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Manage slaughterhouse and processing plant safety concerns such as machinery guarding, sharp equipment handling, wet/slippery floors, cold environments, and CO₂ stunning procedures.
  • Ensure fire safety, industrial protection, and emergency preparedness including registration and expert management of hazardous production facilities like ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, pressure vessels, and gas installations.
  • Coordinate occupational health programs including medical evaluations, exposure monitoring, respiratory protection, and provision of personal protective equipment.
  • Lead environmental management tasks covering waste handling (manure, litter, mortalities, hatchery and slaughterhouse by-products, veterinary and chemical waste), wastewater treatment, emissions control, odor management, water usage, and compliance with statutory environmental reporting.
  • Supervise incident reporting, investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and integration of lessons learned across all operational sites.
  • Drive EHS training initiatives, briefing systems, regular safety inspections, and ongoing safety culture development.
  • Oversee the organizational structure, hiring, professional development, and budget management of the EHS department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, technosphere safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Between 5 and 7 years of relevant experience in environmental, health, and safety roles, including at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Possession of a valid Uzbek occupational safety training and knowledge certification.
  • Proven experience managing safety during construction phases and coordinating contractor EHS activities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Uzbek regulations on occupational, industrial, fire safety, and environmental standards.
  • Competence in risk assessment methodologies including HIRA, JSA, HAZOP/HAZID; permit-to-work systems; lockout/tagout processes; and root cause analysis techniques such as 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams, and TapRooT.
  • Ability to independently engage with supervisory authorities and external auditors with confidence.
  • Capability to make principled and autonomous decisions in high-pressure production environments.
  • Fluency in Uzbek and English languages. Russian proficiency is considered a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in poultry, livestock, food processing, or agro-industrial sectors.
  • International health and safety certifications such as NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, OSHA 30, or equivalent.
  • Certification as an internal or lead auditor for ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 standards.
  • Experience with greenfield industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with facilities having ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, or other high-risk industrial equipment.
