Overview

The opportunity lies within the Canadian branch or its subsidiaries in Montreal. The Analytics Lab, serving as the bank’s AI and Machine Learning center of excellence, spearheads AI transformation projects within BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB).

Role Summary

The AI/ML Specialist will design, develop, and thoroughly assess AI and ML solutions that support the bank’s overarching strategy. Collaborating closely with business units, the role involves translating their needs into impactful AI applications. Staying abreast of advances in GenAI, AI, and ML is crucial, along with conveying technical insights effectively to non-technical stakeholders. The position also requires partnering with application teams to implement and maintain these models in production.

Detailed Responsibilities

Develop and rigorously test AI/ML models aligned with BNP Paribas’ strategic objectives.
Engage with business stakeholders to convert their needs into valuable AI/ML solutions.
Keep current with innovations in Generative AI, artificial intelligence, and machine learning fields to identify practical applications within the bank.
Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including non-technical colleagues.
Collaborate internally to uncover new use cases for machine learning applications and models.
Coordinate with development teams to deploy and support production-level ML models.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Master’s degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, or Mathematics.
Proficient in professional English language communication; bilingualism in English and French is necessary due to client demographics.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Practical experience contributing to data science projects involving machine learning, deep learning, or Generative AI using Python.
A demonstrable portfolio showcasing data science or machine learning projects.
Competence with machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn and PyTorch, and Generative AI/agentic frameworks like transformers, langchain/langgraph, llamaindex, OpenAI Agents SDK, or crewAI.
Experience with data manipulation and analysis libraries including pandas, SQL, Spark, or Dask.
Proficiency in data visualization tools such as matplotlib, seaborn, and plotly.
Familiarity with version control (git), Linux operating systems, and command-line interface usage.
Strong ethical approach and discretion handling sensitive information.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

Knowledge of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques.
Experience with modern Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) methodologies.
Ability to parse and process complex documents.
Experience deploying machine learning models in production environments.
Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools such as GIT, Jenkins, and MLOps practices using MLFlow.
Experience using containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
Mentorship experience with junior team members.
