Job description

Role overview

BNP Paribas is hiring an AI/ML Specialist in Montreal, Quebec, to join the Analytics Lab, the CIB center of excellence for artificial intelligence and machine learning. This group leads AI transformation work across the bank and partners with internal stakeholders on high-impact solutions. The position may sit within the Canadian Branch of BNP Paribas or one of its Montreal-based subsidiaries.

The organization is a fast-growing part of a major international banking group, with its main office in downtown Montreal. It is also committed to sustainability, inclusion, and long-term career development.

What you will do

  • Build, implement, and thoroughly assess AI and machine learning solutions that support the bank’s strategy and business objectives.
  • Partner with business teams to turn their needs into practical, high-value AI/ML use cases.
  • Keep pace with advances in GenAI, AI, and machine learning, and spot opportunities to bring new methods into the bank.
  • Explain technical ideas, findings, and outcomes to non-technical audiences in a clear and concise way.
  • Work closely with internal clients to uncover additional opportunities for machine learning models and applications.
  • Collaborate with application development teams to put models into production and provide ongoing support.

What makes you a strong match

You should bring a master’s degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, or Mathematics. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and hands-on project experience in Python-based data science, machine learning, deep learning, or GenAI are expected.

The role calls for practical experience with ML frameworks and/or GenAI agentic tools, data processing libraries, visualization packages, version control, Linux, and command-line usage. You also need a solid portfolio that shows applied data science or machine learning work. English fluency is required, and knowledge of both English and French is required for this position. The role also calls for discretion when handling confidential information.

Preferred background

Nice-to-have experience includes NLP, modern retrieval-augmented generation techniques, parsing complex documents, production model deployment, CI/CD and MLOps tools such as MLFlow, containerization with Docker and Kubernetes, and mentoring junior teammates.

Work arrangement and benefits

Most positions offer hybrid work flexibility. For this role, office attendance is required at least 3 days per week, including one day that must be a Monday and/or Friday. BNP Paribas also provides competitive compensation, a family and spouse insurance program, a defined contribution pension plan, paid volunteer days, training, personal development support, and opportunities to grow within Canada and internationally.

Important information

  • Applications are reviewed as they arrive, so early submission is encouraged.
  • Accommodation is available throughout the hiring process for candidates who need it.
  • You must be legally allowed to work in the Greater Montreal area and, where relevant, hold a valid work or study permit.
  • Physical presence in the office is an essential part of this role.
  • If the role involves work in or for the U.S. securities industry, additional fingerprinting and background checks may be required, along with transmission of some personal data to U.S. regulators.

Equity and inclusion

BNP Paribas says it maintains an equal-opportunity environment and hires, trains, compensates, and promotes people without regard to race, religion, colour, national origin, sex, disability, age, or other protected status. The company also highlights its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
