About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for a Trainee Clinical Perfusion Scientist within a progressive Perfusion Department at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Wythenshawe Hospital is a leader in cardiac surgery, offering comprehensive adult cardiac surgery services, including ventricular assist devices (V.A.D.), heart and lung transplantation, and respiratory extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (E.C.M.O.). Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and manage the Heart Lung machine during cardiac surgery procedures.
  • Oversee the operation of cell salvage machines.
  • Manage Intra Aortic Balloon Pumps.
  • Utilize mechanical circulatory support devices, including ventricular assist devices, Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and Heartmate 3, as Wythenshawe is a transplant center.
  • Provide Veno Veno Respiratory ECMO services and conduct patient retrievals from external units.
  • Commit to an eventual departmental on-call rotation.
  • Attend The University of Bristol for the Perfusion Science (MSc) program, involving weekly blocks of study combined with practical training at Wythenshawe Hospital.
