Position Overview
The Senior Bookkeeper will independently handle a portfolio of clients, performing end-to-end bookkeeping tasks including BAS preparation and lodgement, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general bookkeeping predominantly using Xero and MYOB software. The role also involves onboarding new clients, conducting discovery sessions, managing file set-up, data migration, developing procedure manuals, and ensuring smooth handovers.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, and PAYG returns accurately and timely.
- Process payroll operations including Single Touch Payroll (STP) and superannuation contributions.
- Conduct bank, credit card, and clearing account reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable workflows efficiently.
- Support new client onboarding through discovery calls, file organization, and procedure manual creation.
- Review and verify own work before finalizing deliverables.
- Communicate regularly with clients, accountants, and the Australian Taxation Office as necessary.
- Assist the team during busy BAS and End of Financial Year (EOFY) periods.
- Report directly to the Principal with updates and insights.
Skills and Qualifications
- At least 5 years’ experience as a bookkeeper or BAS Agent.
- Proven involvement in client onboarding, data migration, and procedural handovers.
- Current or eligible BAS Agent registration.
- Expertise with software tools including Xero, MYOB, Dext, ApprovalMax, Employment Hero, ClickUp, SharePoint.
- Solid experience in payroll processing, STP reporting, and superannuation management.
- Certificate IV or higher in Bookkeeping or Accounting.
- Excellent clear communication skills suitable for client interaction without jargon.
