About Auckland One Rail

Auckland One Rail operates the passenger rail services across Auckland, maintaining stations, depots, and rolling stock. As the city's rail network develops and expands, the company seeks a skilled Rolling Stock Technician for a 12-month fixed-term contract to ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the passenger train fleet.

Role Overview

The Rolling Stock Technician will be an integral part of a dedicated project team delivering significant upgrade initiatives on Auckland One Rail's Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) fleet. Responsibilities include executing planned refurbishment and modification tasks to improve train reliability, safety, and long-term functionality. Additionally, when project demands allow, you will support routine preventative maintenance to aid fleet availability.

The position operates Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, offering a regular work schedule that balances project delivery and operational maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Implement major upgrade and enhancement programmes on the EMU fleet.
  • Perform scheduled modification and refurbishment activities.
  • Support routine preventative maintenance tasks to maintain fleet serviceability.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and quality standards throughout all work processes.
  • Collaborate effectively within the project team and independently as needed.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possession of a relevant trade qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least one year of practical experience in maintenance involving heavy vehicles, rail, industrial, or similar equipment.
  • Strong skills in fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous work experience within the rail industry.
  • Familiarity with rail-specific systems, equipment, and maintenance practices.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
