About the Role and Employer
Hume City Council, located in Broadmeadows, Victoria, is a rapidly expanding and culturally diverse local government authority committed to placing customers and community needs at the forefront of its operations. This permanent full-time position within the Infrastructure Delivery team focuses on managing and delivering a variety of civil and open space infrastructure projects, including playgrounds, park furnishings, lighting, shelters, footpaths, drainage systems, landscaping, streetscapes, and other related works in parks and reserves across the municipality.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Council's infrastructure projects from planning and design stages through to construction completion, commissioning, and handover.
- Ensure capital works and infrastructure programs are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality expectations aligned with project objectives.
- Maintain organized processes throughout all phases of infrastructure delivery.
- Identify and mitigate risks that could negatively impact the Council or community during project execution.
- Focus on generating positive outcomes for the community through project delivery.
- Support continuous improvement of contract and project management practices within the Infrastructure Delivery team.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong technical judgment and problem-solving skills, applying experience and adherence to guidelines, policies, standards, legislation, and industry best practices.
- Ability to refine current methodologies or create innovative techniques based on experience, applying these to new scenarios.
- Independent decision-making capability in evaluating and selecting appropriate procedures to accomplish project objectives.
- Demonstrated knowledge in civil design, traffic management, project management, cost estimating, specifications, tendering, contract administration, construction supervision, and asset management.
- Proficiency in engineering principles and use of software tools such as CAD, GIS, asset management systems, Microsoft Project, Word, and Excel.
- Effective time management skills, prioritizing and organizing workload to meet desired outcomes.
- Experience in developing and maintaining project schedules that support successful project delivery.
- Capability to collaborate and gain support from clients, the public, and team members with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
- Tertiary degree or qualification in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Project or Construction Management, or equivalent field with relevant experience.
- Alternatively, candidates with lesser formal qualifications but substantial technical knowledge and experience in civil infrastructure delivery are also considered.
