About the Role
Eagle Cap Law, a legal firm based in Wallowa County, Oregon, seeks an Office Assistant / Legal Assistant to support administrative duties initially, with the potential to progress into junior and advanced paralegal responsibilities over time.
Responsibilities
- Manage and keep track of tasks, deadlines, and client follow-ups.
- Handle phone calls and record messages accurately.
- Welcome clients and assist with their check-in process.
- Arrange appointments and maintain the office calendar.
- Perform document management tasks such as printing, scanning, copying, mailing, and organizing both physical and electronic files.
- Assist in sending invoices and supporting billing operations.
- Run errands related to the office, court, or county as necessary.
As the role develops, additional duties may include preparing basic legal documents based on templates, organizing probate files, assisting with court filings, preparing subpoenas and exhibits, formatting legal pleadings and declarations, and drafting client communications under attorney supervision.

Previous experience in legal or detailed administrative settings is advantageous but not mandatory.
Work Schedule and Environment
The role offers flexibility with part-time or near full-time hours. Initial working hours may be limited, with opportunities to increase as responsibilities grow. Some presence in the office is required due to tasks involving client interaction, telephone communications, and physical document handling.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting wage ranges from $25 to $34 per hour, adjusted based on the applicant's experience and skill set. Candidates lacking legal office experience may start at the lower end, while those with relevant expertise could earn toward the higher band. Growth in pay and responsibilities are possible with proficiency and increased contribution. Health and dental benefits or a health-benefit arrangement might be offered after approximately 60 days for ongoing employees, subject to eligibility and plan specifics.
