Maintenance Engineer - Mechanical

Role purpose

This position is focused on keeping all mechanical assets in the plant reliable, safe, and available for operations. The role covers both preventive and predictive maintenance work, with execution carried out in line with company policies, safety standards, and budget limits.

Key responsibilities

The role holder will manage routine mechanical maintenance work and may also be assigned additional tasks by supervisors as needed.

Policies, processes, and procedures

• Carry out daily mechanical maintenance work while following all applicable policies, procedures, SOPs, and work instructions to ensure controlled and consistent execution.
• Stay updated on current mechanical maintenance practices and contribute ideas that improve systems, processes, and procedures.

Maintenance planning and review

• Support the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for mechanical work in coordination with Production, Technology, and CES teams.
• Prepare manpower and resource plans based on the maintenance schedule to cover routine jobs as well as shutdown-related work.
• Compile mechanical performance data, track KPI results, prepare reports, and share corrective actions or escalations with the lead maintenance team when required.
• Plan mechanical spare inventory controls, obtain approvals, and ensure parts are issued when needed for job execution.
• Support the discipline manager in identifying spare parts for procurement and follow up with vendors, purchase, and stores teams to ensure availability.
• Assist in preparing maintenance cost and budget plans and review them to support efficient spending.

Maintenance operations

• Perform and oversee mechanical maintenance tasks with attention to quality and safety, ensuring work is completed on time and according to standards and best practices.
• Handle preventive and corrective maintenance of plant equipment to reduce production or quality losses.
• Assess equipment condition and monitor performance trends to spot abnormalities and improve equipment availability.
• Complete preservation activities as scheduled to maintain equipment and asset functionality and readiness.
• Coordinate shutdown job execution to ensure planned work is finished within the required timeline.
• Conduct regular look-listen-feel inspections in the plant to detect likely failures and recommend corrective measures.
• Work with Production, Quality, CES, EHS, and Technology teams to identify issues, gather inputs, and implement actions that improve plant health.
• Carry out troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, with CES support where technical assistance is needed.
• Maintain IMS records related to mechanical maintenance so that documents are ready for review and audit purposes.
• Take part in reliability and integrity studies for mechanical systems and components as required to support safe and dependable operation.
• Keep SAP PM and SAP MM data, analysis, and cost records accurate by entering and validating information on time, including pending jobs.
• Coordinate with the workshop team for repair work to help complete maintenance tasks on schedule.
• Support minor project activities whenever required.

Workplace safety and environment

• Follow all mechanical maintenance safety, fire, and environmental requirements to support a safe workplace for plant personnel.
• Monitor plant machinery for safety, fire, and environmental risks linked to mechanical work, identify root causes, and help address them.
• Participate in safety incident investigations with the safety team, help draft action plans, and support implementation to prevent repeat incidents.
• Assist in emergency response activities during safety or fire incidents to help close incidents quickly.

Compliance and audits

• Prepare audit-related reports and documents, assist the lead maintenance team during audits, and help implement final corrective measures.
• Support timely completion of audit requirements and carry out corrective actions when deviations are identified.
• Help ensure compliance with HSEF requirements, including RESOP, MIQA, CFA, and DOSHE mandatory training, and support the resulting action plans.
• Monitor contractor activity to ensure it follows company policies and procedures.
• Ensure completion of mandatory training requirements in line with established policies and processes.

Education and experience

Applicants should hold a Bachelors in Engineering or a Diploma in Mechanical or Production. The position requires 1 to 3 years of plant maintenance experience; candidates with a diploma should have more relevant experience.

Desired knowledge and capabilities

Strong knowledge of codes and standards, mechanical equipment maintenance, periodic/proactive/shutdown maintenance, equipment repair and refurbishment, troubleshooting, turnaround coordination, contractor management, health and safety, analytical thinking, interpersonal effectiveness, communication, and decision-making is expected.
