Role overview
An experienced Health and Safety Officer is needed to support a client’s operations in the UAE. The position is focused on maintaining compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and helping build a workplace that is safe, healthy, and free from accidents across all project locations.
The ideal candidate will be hands-on, meticulous, and capable of leading safety efforts with a strong commitment to prevention, legal compliance, incident handling, and ongoing improvement in safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Set up, track, and assist with the rollout of OHS policies, procedures, and safety programmes.
- Guide employees and provide leadership on health, safety, and environmental topics.
- Organise and conduct safety awareness sessions and training for both staff and management.
- Make sure operations follow relevant health, safety, and environmental laws as well as internal company standards.
- Carry out risk assessments and suggest preventive and corrective actions to reduce workplace hazards.
- Observe day-to-day work to confirm that safety rules and procedures are being followed.
- Detect and intervene when unsafe behaviour, conditions, or methods could endanger people or assets.
- Supervise safety controls for construction work, repairs, installations, and maintenance tasks.
- Act quickly during incidents, accidents, and emergencies, and help implement measures that reduce risk.
- Support investigations into incidents to determine root causes and recommend follow-up actions.
- Help manage workers’ compensation matters and injury-related claims.
- Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and regular safety training refreshers.
- Prepare safety documentation, inspection records, and compliance reports as required.
- Keep detailed records of incidents, inspections, audits, and corrective actions taken.
Requirements
- Prior experience working as a Safety Officer in the GCC is required.
- At least 5 years of health and safety experience in the construction sector.
- Strong understanding of UAE health and safety laws, regulations, and accepted industry practices.
- Good knowledge of hazardous substances, risk assessment methods, and safe working procedures.
- Experience analysing data, preparing incident reports, and tracking safety performance.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and sound judgement.
- Proven capability in safety oversight, people coordination, and project delivery.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety Management, or a similar field.
- Relevant occupational health and safety certification.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) is compulsory.
- Valid UAE driving licence.
