Engagement & Belonging Specialist

Position Summary

The Engagement & Belonging Specialist at Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing plays a pivotal role as the operational driver behind key member-facing programs and experiences. This role focuses on ensuring the smooth and intentional functioning of Sigma’s digital platforms, mentorship initiatives, recognition workflows, and educational participation systems, enhancing the overall member experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations and continual enhancement of the online community platform, mentorship programs, awards and recognition processes, and educational submissions.
• Collaborate with volunteers, moderators, mentors, reviewers, cross-functional teams, and external platform partners to coordinate timelines, troubleshoot issues, and improve program delivery.
• Analyze engagement data to identify trends and opportunities to foster active, seamless, and meaningful member interactions.
• Support volunteer moderators in applying community guidelines and maintaining consistent engagement within digital spaces.
• Oversee mentorship program administration including onboarding, participant matching, communications, and operational refinements.
• Manage the educational abstract and submission process ensuring clarity, adherence to deadlines, and smooth experience for participants and reviewers.
• Work cross-departmentally to integrate and translate organizational initiatives into engaging member experiences that promote belonging and participation.
• Engage with external vendors and platform partners to test system functionalities and advocate for usability and accessibility improvements.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum of two years’ experience in member or volunteer engagement, program coordination, community or association management, nonprofit operations, or related areas.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proven experience supporting online communities, volunteer or educational programs, member services, with proficiency in tech platforms such as CRM, community platforms, databases, or learning management systems.
• Strong aptitude for multitasking and managing multiple projects concurrently with meticulous attention to detail.
• Analytical mindset with problem-solving skills and commitment to delivering excellent member or customer service.
• Hands-on operational orientation with ownership for resolving system inefficiencies and member friction points.
• Ability to reimagine processes as member experiences and reduce friction to build trust and connection at scale.
• Adaptability to evolving workflows in less defined environments with readiness to help shape systems and embrace change.
• Experience with online community administration, mentorship or recognition programs, educational submission processes, or data reporting is advantageous; background in professional associations or healthcare preferred.

Additional Details

• Location: Remote within the United States
• Travel: Occasional travel for meetings, conferences, trainings, and events approximately 2-4 times per year, depending on needs.
• Salary Range: $45,000 to $55,000 per year, aligned with equity and organizational guidelines.
