About the Role

The Director, Policy and Strategy at the First Nations Justice Office (FNJO) is tasked with spearheading the strategic vision and overseeing the implementation of criminal justice reform initiatives led by the FNJO.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee various projects and initiatives within the FNJO work program, while fostering productive relationships with key stakeholders including judiciary members, government departments, community-controlled organisations, and the broader community.
• Provide strong leadership to a dedicated team, establishing priorities and ensuring timely delivery of the FNJO's objectives.
• Oversee team activities such as policy formulation, program design and management, governance oversight, and comprehensive reporting.
• Build and maintain effective partnerships to support FNJO initiatives and proactively identify opportunities to enhance the justice system.
• Supervise and advise on the preparation of submissions, briefs, ministerial and departmental correspondence, responses to Parliamentary Questions on Notice, and policy advice to support informed decision-making by governance groups comprising Ministers and Directors-General of criminal justice and human services agencies.
• Represent the FNJO in various inter-departmental and inter-agency forums ensuring thorough consultation and collaboration on policies influencing FNJO initiatives.
