Position Overview
This role involves a variety of administrative support tasks within a school environment, including student registration, maintaining academic records, managing attendance and tuition status, and preparing reports for administrative staff. The role also entails managing property inventory and coordinating maintenance of equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct student administrative functions such as registering students, tracking attendance, and updating academic records.
- Distribute registration materials like student schedules, handbooks, health forms, and related documents to families.
- Input and update student data including grades, attendance, tuition, and transfers.
- Generate necessary reports for school management and other departments.
- Serve as the custodian of school property by maintaining inventory records for durable equipment and supplies.
- Identify and report needed repairs or maintenance on school equipment.
- Record all supply transactions using automated systems and ensure proper filing for audit purposes.
- Maintain the school calendar and arrange appointments for staff members.
- Track and manage personnel records concerning staff attendance, leave, and related data.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and male candidates born after December 31, 1959, must comply with Selective Service requirements.
- Direct deposit of salary is mandatory.
- Appointment is contingent upon suitability/fitness background checks including Tier 1 and Childcare Checks due to contact with minors.
- The role involves some physical demands such as walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 40 pounds, and loading/unloading boxes and vehicles.
- Eligibility is restricted to candidates belonging to specific categories including current Department of War Education Activity civilians, Department of War employees, and other designated federal employment and veterans programs.
Qualification Criteria
- For GS-05 level: One year of experience in data entry using automated systems, maintaining supplies, and preparing correspondence, or four years of education above high school in relevant business, secretarial or technical fields, or a combination of education and experience.
- For GS-06 level: One year of experience involving report preparation, supply tracking, calendar management, and personnel records handling including time and attendance or payroll; no education substitution allowed at this grade.
- Time-in-grade requirements apply for promotion eligibility.
- Foreign education must be assessed by an approved evaluation organization if used for qualification.

- The Department of Defense Education Activity is transitioning to the Department of War Education Activity.
- Selection may be limited by Department of Defense referral restrictions and includes potential locality pay adjustments.
