Role Overview

As a full-time Reporter positioned in Lilongwe, you will collect information from various stakeholders including community members and project sites to create compelling, accurate stories centered on climate-smart agriculture, environmental entrepreneurship, and resilience efforts. Your work will span interviewing, attending field events, verifying data, and producing both written and multimedia content for reports, newsletters, social media, and other organizational platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough interviews and field observations.
• Write clear, engaging narratives that translate technical details into accessible language.
• Collaborate with program teams to highlight project impacts and community voices.
• Produce multimedia content such as photographs, audio recordings, and videos to enrich storytelling.
• Maintain communication with local partners to ensure accurate representation.
• Meet editorial deadlines and follow ethical standards aligned with organization values.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Proven proficiency in reporting and news writing to generate balanced, timely stories.
• Strong communication skills adaptable to diverse audiences.
• Basic to intermediate multimedia competencies including photography, audio, video, or social media content creation.
• Capable of on-site work in Lilongwe with occasional travel to field locations.
• Interest or experience related to climate change, agriculture, rural development, or community-driven projects.
• Exemplary ethical standards, attention to detail, and sensitivity to marginalized groups.
• Academic background in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Development Studies or equivalent practical expertise.
• Fluency in English, with knowledge of local Malawian languages considered an advantage.
