About the Role

Leicestershire County Council is seeking a dedicated Public Transport Technician to join the Sustainable Travel Team at County Hall, Glenfield, Leicester. This permanent, full-time position focuses on enhancing public transportation infrastructure and information across the county, supporting improvements funded by additional government investments.

Main Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain roadside public transport information including flags, cases, and town boards on poles and lamp columns.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of bus stop facilities such as flags, shelters, hard standings, and timetable cases.
  • Input and update collected data into relevant databases and spreadsheets accurately.
  • Assist with the gathering, manipulation, and analysis of bus service data to support service improvements.
  • Help prepare and produce roadside publicity materials including notices, timetables, and waysides.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possess NVQ Level 2 or equivalent, at least GCSE Level A-C in English and Maths, or relevant demonstrable public-facing work experience.
  • Hold a valid full driving licence, with no more than 5 penalty points.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel or equivalent to manage and organise data, with strong numerical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience using manual and power tools such as drills and metal banding equipment, with physical capability to perform mobility-based tasks like fixing flags and lifting equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of Health & Safety regulations relevant to highway work, including willingness to use PPE and safety equipment.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently in a lone-working environment, demonstrating initiative and effective workload prioritisation.
  • Good geographical knowledge of Leicestershire and flexibility to work outside normal hours as needed.
