About the Role

The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) invites experienced financial professionals to join its public sector team in a pivotal role. As Principal Project Accountant, you will be instrumental in leading the financial oversight and management of the 2028 State and local government election cycle, contributing significantly towards the organisation's strategic mission and execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead the financial planning cycle for the 2028 elections in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer, ensuring comprehensive strategic and business budgets.
  • Partner with election Program Managers to assess financial and project data, pinpointing risks and opportunities to enhance project delivery.
  • Conduct detailed financial analyses including costs, pricing strategies, contribution margins, and monitor project outcomes versus budgets and forecasts while managing cash flow.
  • Prepare detailed budget submissions, briefing materials, reports, financial methodologies, and correspondence addressing complex fiscal matters.
  • Collaborate closely with project and finance teams for accurate expenditure projections and ensure expenditures are correctly cost coded.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies within project accounting, working closely with all involved stakeholders.
  • Lead a structured, precise month-end financial reporting process alongside the finance team.
  • Provide strategic fiscal advice and timely reports to the CFO to aid in election event planning and delivery.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and systems that comply with legislative and internal audit requirements under CFO guidance.
  • Build and nurture strong partnerships with both internal teams and external stakeholders to support organisational goals.
  • Encourage a collaborative, respectful, and wellbeing-focused culture within the Finance team and wider ECQ workforce.
