About the Role
USIC is seeking dedicated Utility Locators for a full-time, onsite position in Aiken, SC. This role involves performing precise and safe underground utility location services for various infrastructure types such as telecommunications, electric, gas, water, sewer, and cable TV. Working mainly outdoors, you will independently operate within designated areas using advanced technology and company-provided vehicles to accurately mark underground utilities, complete documentation, and photograph each locating task.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and mark underground utilities correctly and safely, including telecommunications, electric power, gas, water, sewage, and cable services.
- Execute comprehensive searches for underground utilities in assigned zones.
- Accurately complete and submit required documentation and photographic records for each locate.
Work Conditions and Schedule
This is a daytime, full-time role with expectations to meet a 48-hour turnaround time on many locates. The job requires flexibility to work after holidays, occasional weekends, overtime, and be available for on-call shifts during nights and weekends based on business needs.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors under varying weather conditions; prior outdoor work experience is advantageous.
- Technology proficiency and comfort using digital tools to support locate work.
- Availability to work additional hours including weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts.
- Pass a mandatory drug screen since this role is safety sensitive.
- Hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Physical capability to work in confined spaces and handle tasks involving bending, walking, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to discern color codes used for identifying wiring and marking utilities.
- Competency in reading and interpreting locate tickets, maps, and engineering prints.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
