Enjuba is an educational organization dedicated to enhancing literacy, numeracy, and self-regulation skills among Ugandan children. They deliver early childhood learning programs, provide storybooks, and organize spelling bees primarily in rural public and community schools throughout Eastern Uganda. Their mission is to grow a future generation of readers, thinkers, and responsible citizens.

Position Overview

This full-time, on-site position is based in Mayuge District. As a Teacher Coach, the incumbent will spearhead efforts to strengthen teaching skills, improve classroom instruction quality, and facilitate the rollout of Enjuba's Early Childhood Learning Program. Key duties include offering hands-on coaching, mentoring, and training to educators; assisting with lesson planning and execution based on child-centered, play-oriented approaches; performing regular classroom observations coupled with immediate constructive feedback; tracking teaching practices and learning achievements; and collaborating closely with school management, district officials, and Enjuba’s education team to maintain high program standards.

Primary Duties

• Assist teachers in creating stimulating, developmentally suitable lesson plans aligned with Enjuba’s curriculum, through weekly classroom visits and timely feedback.
• Encourage and exemplify active, inclusive, child-focused educational practices and environments.
• Support teachers in effectively applying phonics, storytelling, and play-based teaching methods.
• Conduct observations, document teacher and student progress, recognize gaps, and jointly devise improvement strategies.
• Forge and maintain strong relationships with teachers, headteachers, and community members to promote collective engagement with education quality.
• Work alongside fellow teacher coaches and curriculum specialists to exchange best practices and strategize improvements.
• Adhere to Enjuba’s fundamental principles of Character, Responsibility, Excellence, Empathy, and Discipline in all activities.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Primary Education.
• A minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience in early childhood settings.
• Direct knowledge of child development and key milestones.
• Experience in coaching teachers, mentoring, or school leadership, particularly in rural or community contexts.
• Strong expertise in early literacy and numeracy, with proficiency in explicit, systematic synthetic phonics instruction.
• Proven skills in planning and delivering engaging teacher training sessions.
• Familiarity with child-centered, play-driven, and active learning techniques.
• Capability to monitor, document, and report on teaching progress.

Desirable

• Relevant certification or coursework in Education or Early Childhood Development programs.
• Experience working with NGOs or in education development projects.
• Knowledge of Ugandan Early Childhood or Lower Primary curriculum and national learning standards.
• Skill in using formative assessments and observation tools to assess teacher and student development.
• Proficiency with digital tools such as Excel and Google Suite for data management and communications.
• A strong passion for advancing learning outcomes and expanding teacher capabilities.

Core Competencies and Personal Attributes

• Excellent facilitation, coaching, and interpersonal communication abilities.
• Fluent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Knowledge of local languages Lusoga, Swahili, or Luganda is a plus.
• High empathy, patience, and professionalism in interactions with teachers and young children.
• Strong organizational and time management capabilities with close attention to detail.
• Self-driven, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal oversight.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel frequently within Mayuge District and nearby areas.
