Installation Technician III

Role Overview

The Installation Technician III is responsible for executing installation activities on AVI-SPL projects, including cable pulling, termination, system component setup, rack construction, wiring layouts, and metal fabrication. This position entails leadership to oversee installation crews on larger and more intricate projects, coordinating progress and reporting to the Project Manager to meet objectives related to timeline, scope, budget, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct all installation-related tasks as specified by project plans and directives.
• Lead onsite, providing mentorship to Level 1 and Level 2 technicians and ensuring quality standards.
• Interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints accurately.
• Utilize hand and power tools for tasks such as soldering and crimping connectors, related to audiovisual systems.
• Perform cable testing, system functionality verification, and code loading for control and DSP systems.
• Assist engineers or programmers with minor programming adjustments as needed.
• Manage and secure all equipment and tools at job sites.
• Coordinate with office staff for return material authorizations when necessary.
• Support Project Manager through site supervision, daily progress communication, and documentation completion.
• Serve as the client contact onsite within project scope, directing change requests to the Project Manager.
• Collaborate with other trades present onsite to ensure smooth project progression.
• Provide client training when required.
• Travel to different job locations as necessary.
• Adapt to additional tasks and responsibilities to meet evolving project and organizational needs.

Working Conditions

• Work typically occurs onsite in environments that may resemble construction settings.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of conveying technical information to diverse audiences.
• Strong client-facing abilities to build and maintain relationships professionally.
• Advanced knowledge of audiovisual technologies, including projectors, screens, speakers, microphones, video conferencing, digital signage, and control systems.
• Proficiency in installing, terminating, and troubleshooting low-voltage cabling such as HDMI, CAT5e/6, and fiber optic, including cable management methods like conduit runs and trays.
• Skilled in diagnosing and resolving audiovisual system issues.
• Understanding of network infrastructure integration with AV systems, encompassing IP-based and cloud services.
• Competence in safely operating hand and power tools.
• Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and lead junior technicians and teams on complex projects.
• Experience using specialized test equipment and adherence to installation safety codes and standards.
• Regularly advising Project Managers, Engineers, and Programmers on technical and installation issues affecting project delivery.
• Possession of AVIXA CTS General Certification.
• Holds a valid driver’s license and complies with company driving standards.
• Minimum of four to six years' experience in audiovisual, electronics, or related industry installations.
• High school diploma or equivalent educational credential required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal education in Audio Visual, Electronics, or related fields.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
• Additional industry-specific and manufacturer certifications aligned with company standards.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
• Experience as a project site lead.
• Ability to obtain specialized security clearances if necessary.
