Head of Performance & Information (Corporate)

Job Overview

This leadership role directs the corporate Performance and Information function for a major NHS Trust, formulating and implementing strategy for monitoring, reporting, and enhancing performance. The post holder collaborates closely with the Assistant Director for Performance and Information to ensure all national, regulatory, and management reporting standards are met.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead the Trust’s overall performance management, ensuring effective oversight of key performance indicators aligned with national, regional, and local standards.
• Develop and embed a comprehensive Performance Framework featuring standardized reporting, scorecards, and governance protocols across divisions.
• Deliver expert leadership in data analytics and business intelligence to provide actionable insights supporting clinical, operational, and strategic decision-making.
• Ensure accurate, timely internal and external performance reports that comply with contractual, regulatory, and statutory demands.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on information management, reporting quality, data integrity, and analytical capabilities.
• Collaborate with divisions, commissioners, and stakeholders to support service planning, performance improvement, and organizational objectives.
• Lead data quality initiatives including validation, audits, and embedding sustainable improvements in data collection and recording practices.
• Manage and develop a team of Data Analysts, fostering professional growth and high performance.
• Represent the Trust at various forums locally, regionally, and nationally related to performance, information management, and analytics.
• Handle additional duties as required by senior management, prioritizing competing work demands effectively.

Information Management

• Head the delivery of accurate information management services that meet operational and clinical information needs across the Trust.
• Promote self-service analytics and optimize business intelligence tools for enhanced decision-making.
• Act as the key contact for clinical system data, supporting development, standardization, and change management.
• Continuously improve performance and information processes through automation and streamlined workflows.

Staff Leadership

• Provide strong leadership to the Data Analysts team, overseeing recruitment, performance management, and staff development.
• Implement succession planning and talent retention strategies while encouraging team understanding of clinical services and outcomes.

Person Specification

• Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
• Master’s level qualification or equivalent experience leading BI and analytics functions within the NHS.
• Management or leadership qualifications.
• Proven record of professional development.
• Experience with NHS service delivery, managing information teams, and leading organizational change.
• Desirable: Prince II or related Project Management Qualification.
