Job description
Position Overview
We are seeking dedicated Social Workers for permanent full-time roles based at our multicultural office in Porirua, serving the communities in Porirua City and the Kāpiti Coast District. Applicants can range from experienced professionals to near-final year social work students. This role focuses on supporting tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau to foster positive community wellbeing.
Primary Duties
- Conduct thorough assessments of tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau, collaborating closely with partner agencies and Iwi.
- Lead hui that empower whānau to build capacity in caring for their tamariki and rangatahi.
- Develop and implement care interventions aimed at keeping tamariki and rangatahi safely within their families, including monitoring Family Group Conferences (FGCs) or Manaaki plans alongside Hapori and Iwi partners.
- Collaborate with other Oranga Tamariki sites as well as governmental and community organizations.
- Support tamariki currently in Care and assist those transitioning out of Care into long-term or independent living arrangements.

Candidate Profile
- Registered or eligible for registration with New Zealand's Social Work Registration Board (SWRB).
- Possession of a social work qualification recognized by SWRB.
- Holds a valid, clean, and current New Zealand driver’s license.
- Empathy and patience with a deep capability to understand individuals beyond their struggles.
- Experience in child protection within New Zealand, preferably in NGOs or Oranga Tamariki.
- Strong skills in preparing social work plans and other documentation, including financial plans.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement, manage risk, and make difficult decisions when needed.
- Excellent verbal communication skills adaptable to various audiences.
- Proficient written communication skills required for court reports, case notes, and official records.
