Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a Project Controls Specialist to deliver expert project controls support across a portfolio of infrastructure projects. You will collaborate closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, and teams to facilitate successful project delivery through effective cost control, reporting, risk management, scheduling, and governance. This role is within the Transport Services Group, contributing to projects that connect communities and regions throughout New Zealand and enhancing project controls practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee project controls and related administrative tasks for multiple assigned projects.
  • Assist project teams in forecasting, reporting, budgeting, scheduling, and managing risks.
  • Maintain and evaluate project financial data, including cash flow forecasts and variance assessments.
  • Prepare and coordinate high-quality reporting for stakeholders on project and program progress.
  • Help identify, escalate, and manage project risks and issues promptly.
  • Provide technical advice ensuring project controls align with organizational frameworks.
  • Establish and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders during the entire project lifecycle.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of project management systems, methods, and reporting standards.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience in a PMO or project/program delivery environment.
  • Proven expertise in cost management, risk assessment, scheduling, and reporting within project controls.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and analytical review.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Organizational skills with the aptitude to prioritize competing demands efficiently.
  • Proficient in building collaborative working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Competent in identifying trends, risks, and issues and implementing proactive solutions.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Background in civil engineering, transport, or infrastructure projects is highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with contract administration and reporting, including standards like NZS and collaborative contracting.
  • Experience with project management software and SAP financial systems.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Project or program management certification is beneficial.

Cultural Awareness

Candidates should have knowledge of or be open to gaining understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Māori, tikanga, Te Reo Māori, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as relevant to public service delivery.
