Job description

About Rangitaiki Station

Rangitaiki Station is one of New Zealand's largest farms, spanning 7,802 hectares near Taupō in the Waikato District. This operation combines sheep, beef, and deer farming across flat to rolling terrain between 650 and 900 metres elevation. It is a complex, large-scale farm with a team of 22 skilled staff and a dedicated Infrastructure and Machinery team of five, ensuring smooth running of diverse farming systems.

Role Overview

This role involves approximately 70% tractor and machinery operation, including work such as cultivation, cropping, feeding, topping pastures, and moving metal for tracks and paths. You will also maintain machinery, vehicles, and equipment, and assist with fencing, repairs, and general upkeep of the farm infrastructure. The position offers a stable working rhythm with consistent hours year-round, allowing you autonomy to manage your day and coordinate with the wider team.

Responsibilities

  • Operate tractors and a range of farm machinery to support cultivation, cropping, feeding out, pasture topping, and metal carting.
  • Maintain machinery, vehicles, and equipment to ensure their safety and efficiency.
  • Assist with fencing, general repairs, and farm infrastructure upkeep.
  • Work independently and proactively identify maintenance or tasks needing attention.
  • Collaborate with the Infrastructure and Machinery team and other farm staff to maintain smooth farm operations.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant enjoys practical, hands-on outdoor work, takes pride in maintaining a tidy and safe workspace, and is self-motivated. A full New Zealand driver licence is required. You should be confident with tractor and farm machinery operation and have some experience in general machinery duties and basic repairs, fencing, or vehicle maintenance.

Additional Information

  • Competitive salary plus health and life insurance.
  • Accommodation provided: a two-bedroom cottage with power and Wi-Fi included.
  • Extra day of leave during Christmas period.
  • Enhanced parental leave benefits and up to 4% KiwiSaver matching.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.

Applicants must have unrestricted legal rights to work in New Zealand and be available for in-person interviews. Successful candidates will need to pass drug and alcohol screening and a criminal background check.
