About Notion
Notion offers a collaborative AI workspace that unites knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools in a single place to enhance productivity and reduce fragmentation. It supports millions from individuals to enterprises, focusing on creating lasting, human-centric solutions rather than just delivering features. The teams at Notion aim to redefine how humans collaborate in the AI-driven work environment, automating mundane tasks and giving customers more time for essential work.
Role Overview
The AI Platform team at Notion builds foundational systems enabling fast, safe deployment of AI products at scale. You will join a talented engineering group tasked with balancing speed and quality by ensuring reliability, availability through provider transitions, quality control mechanisms such as evaluations and release gates, observability for debugging, and shared AI integration primitives. This role is based in San Francisco with onsite work required three days a week.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the prototyping, development, and scaling of AI platform core systems.
- Collaborate with product teams to provide streamlined pathways and production-ready safeguards to accelerate AI feature launches and prevent duplicated efforts.
- Integrate seamlessly with infrastructure, libraries, APIs, and products to facilitate easy adoption and maximize platform impact.
- Maintain operational responsibility for AI systems in production, employing observability tools to diagnose provider behavior, resolve failures, optimize latency and costs, and enable system evolution with minimal disruption.
- Enable safe adoption of new AI models and capabilities through version control, phased rollouts, compatibility layers, and clear quality and reliability standards.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong enthusiasm for large-scale AI systems, with experience in LLM, ML platform, data, or infrastructure teams handling shared critical systems.
- Ability to navigate rapidly changing technology landscapes, understanding system behavior in real conditions and eagerness to utilize AI tools for smarter work.
- Ownership mindset, capable of addressing ambiguous challenges, aligning stakeholders, and ensuring platform reliability, quality, and adoption beyond team boundaries.
- Effective problem solver with a clear grasp of system contexts, capable of debugging complex multi-layer failures independently or with peers.
- Business-oriented pragmatist who balances quality, latency, cost, and speed in platform development to drive impactful outcomes.
Desired Qualifications
- 2 to 4 years of software engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience in applied AI product development such as prompt engineering, evaluations, model integrations, or quality assessment.
- Experience with large-scale data pipelines using Apache Spark or Ray.
- Proficiency in full-stack development with Typescript and Node.js ecosystem.
- Background in building ML operations and machine learning serving infrastructure.
Compensation and Location
Notion offers competitive cash compensation alongside equity and benefits. For candidates in San Francisco or New York City, the base salary is estimated between $180,000 and $201,000 annually, influenced by factors such as location, role complexity, and candidate experience.
