Principal Geophysicist

Primary Objective

Work collaboratively with cross-functional project teams and peers to provide expert geophysical input supporting exploration efforts and studies within QatarEnergy's International non-operated ventures (NOJV).

Core Duties

• Evaluate new venture opportunities through screening processes and perform asset prospect and lead assessments including risk and volumetric analyses to prioritize portfolio projects for drill readiness.
• Oversee exploration and appraisal well preparations and monitor drilling operations.
• Conduct seismic studies while supervising geophysical activities such as acquisition, processing, and well seismic integration.
• Lead integrated geoscience reviews to ensure quality assurance of operators' work, supporting venture decisions and securing approval from QatarEnergy management.
• Act as a technical consultant on complex geophysical and subsurface challenges, offering timely and cost-effective remedies.
• Support NOJV Asset Management tasks including preparation of Annual Business Plans, Scorecards, maintaining Venture Risk Registers, and providing senior management updates on Total Cost Management (TCM) and Operational Cost Management (OCM) asset recommendations.
• Influence operators’ strategies to align with QatarEnergy’s interests focusing on synergies and cost-efficiency whenever possible.
• Represent the company in technical meetings, manage documentation of QatarEnergy’s positions, encourage respectful dialogue and knowledge sharing, and assist with continuous improvement initiatives for assigned assets or regions.

Required Expertise and Skills

• At least 15 years of extensive experience in International exploration and new ventures within global oil and gas companies (IOCs).
• Demonstrated expertise in seismic interpretation and advanced quantitative interpretation techniques including AVO analysis, rock physics, and seismic inversion for project maturation, geological risk assessment, and resource quantification in exploration and appraisal.
• Proven leadership capabilities managing complex teams, projects, and ventures.
• Strong passion for exploration, collaborating closely with professional teams to advance projects and deliver clear recommendations to the company and joint ventures.
• Ability to motivate and mentor junior staff and work integratively with other disciplines.
• Experience in diverse sedimentary basins worldwide, including pre- and post-salt formations, with skills from play-based exploration to developing drill-ready prospects.
• Competency in non-operated roles requiring effective communication to maintain credibility and influence JV operating partners to support QatarEnergy’s strategic objectives.
• Background in managing multiple IOCs within non-operated joint ventures.
• Proficiency in advanced geoscience software: Petrel Suite including QI modules, GeoX, and Hampson-Russel is essential; experience with RokDoc, PaleoScan, and basin modeling tools is advantageous.

Academic Credentials

Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Physics, or Geology is required. A Master’s degree in Geophysics is highly preferred.
