Job Overview
Utilize scientific disciplines such as chemistry, microbiology, and engineering to analyze food components, study food processing and degradation, and develop safe, enjoyable, and nutritious processed foods. Determine optimal methods for food processing, packaging, preservation, storage, and distribution.
IFF, a global frontrunner in flavors, fragrances, food ingredients, and biosciences, offers a unique opportunity to innovate within the vanilla domain from Madagascar — the heart of vanilla cultivation.
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead flavor creation initiatives using both local and existing ingredient portfolios specific to vanilla-based product innovation.
- Drive the operational dynamics of the flavorist unit and maintain strong coordination with IC&D regional teams.
- Contribute to the development and execution of food testing protocols.
- Engage daily with remote teams to ensure seamless collaboration.
- Align projects with international standards and internal company policies, ensuring global consistency.
- Collaborate with senior staff on flavor creation projects and develop creative expertise by evaluating prototypes, ingredients, and technologies.
- Work in close partnership with Creation and Sales to adapt, replicate, and innovate successful flavor profiles.
- Respond promptly to internal and external flavor-related briefs.
Candidate Requirements
- Holds a diploma in Flavorist training, leveraging cultural and technical knowledge in human food and flavors.
- Creatively innovates using raw and aromatic ingredients in culinary fields including dairy, chocolate, beverages, and pastries.
- Possesses strong familiarity with plant-based, fermented milk drinks, dry beverage blends, protein nutrition, and food agglomerates.
- Thorough knowledge of food ingredients such as hydrocolloids, emulsifiers, proteins, and flavor materials.
- Experience in product development and formulation.
- Understanding of commercial influences affecting product cost and pricing strategies.
- Proficient in English for everyday communication and professional exchanges.
- Expertise in developing and monitoring laboratory-scale protocols.
- Good networking abilities within 5D process stakeholders and regional ambassadors.
- Effective liaison between regional ambassadors and the 5D process framework.
- Competent with Microsoft Office suite alongside other application-related IT systems.
Preferred Qualifications and Expertise
- Skilled in formulating various flavor types including modular blends.
- Familiarity with proprietary software such as IFFman, TasteEditor, and SAP.
- Understanding analytical techniques related to flavor delivery systems and technologies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of flavor chemistry and relevant scientific literature.
- Experience evaluating raw materials and finished products focusing on Vanilla Flavor Identification.
- Awareness of costing procedures and CIU guidelines.
- Knowledge of legal regulations related to vanilla including legislation, specificities, and restrictions.
