Role Overview

We seek an experienced contract Senior SDET to join our Digital Engineering automation team for a critical initiative lasting at least 12 months. The contractor will be responsible for expanding Playwright UI automation and Python/pytest-based API test coverage on our digital commerce platform. This demanding role requires the ability to quickly understand and adhere to codebase standards and deliver robust, maintainable automation solutions from the outset.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain comprehensive Playwright (TypeScript) end-to-end test suites for specified user journeys, ensuring successful integration in CI pipelines.
Increase Python/pytest API test coverage for relevant service domains leveraging REST, GraphQL, and SOAP protocols.
Integrate newly developed tests into Jenkins pipelines with accurate smoke, sanity, or functional test tagging.
Create and manage WireMock stubs necessary for supporting test scenarios.
Engage in pull request reviews, ensuring strict compliance with established automation standards.
Document newly introduced testing patterns or deviations for smooth handoffs to the permanent team.
Utilize AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.) extensively to expedite coding, fixture generation, assertion development, and stub authoring while ensuring code quality through personal validation.

Exclusions

No redesign of existing test frameworks or broad infrastructure/CI pipeline changes beyond test job configurations.
No involvement in Jira/project administration or team management tasks like hiring.

Required Experience & Skills

At least 5 years of hands-on experience in software test automation within an SDET or automation engineer role.
Strong practice with Playwright (TypeScript), including Page Object Model, fixtures, worker threads, and parallel test execution.
Proficiency in Python and pytest, particularly writing structured assertions, validation of status/schema/payload, and chaining requests.
Expertise in REST API testing involving query/mutation execution and schema validation, plus GraphQL testing skills.
Experience managing Jenkins pipelines, including reading/modifying configurations and integrating tests.
Hands-on use of WireMock for stub building, request matching, and response templating.
Clean Git skills focused on branching, pull requests, conflict resolution, and maintaining commit hygiene.
Demonstrated usage of AI development tools to boost test authoring, code review, and coverage gap analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of SOAP/WSDL service testing and Postman/Newman for API smoke testing.
Familiarity with microservices architectures and their testing implications.
Experience with Java/Selenium, AWS testing environments, and shell scripting for CI troubleshooting.

Additional Benefits

Understanding of Spring Boot microservices testing and ISTQB or equivalent certifications.

Maintaining high code quality with reliable, non-flaky tests, adherence to naming/folder conventions, and traceability to ticketing systems.
Regular communication via Slack and prompt escalation of ambiguities.
