Role Overview

The Youth Worker will provide supervision and support to young individuals involved in the youth justice system. This position reports directly to the Program Coordinator and requires a commitment to delivering structured assistance aligned with youth justice interventions.

Mandatory Requirements

  • An unrestricted "C" Class driver's license is required, as the role involves operating government vehicles regularly.
  • The position is classified as regulated employment due to working with children and young people, necessitating a valid Blue Card linked to the organisation before commencement.
  • The role is based in Mount Isa but will require travel throughout the region for site visits and to other departmental or regional offices, potentially including overnight stays.

  • Participate actively within a multidisciplinary team comprising both internal and external partners to optimize casework and management outcomes.
  • Maintain current knowledge related to the role through ongoing learning and development activities.
  • Document clear and accessible case records according to departmental standards, assisting in planning and review meetings.
  • Support the Program Coordinator by preparing weekly work rosters for young people under supervision or bail programs, aligned with their response plans.
  • Conduct routine safety audits of service delivery locations and equipment to ensure secure program operation.
  • Attend and contribute to training aimed at delivering youth justice services based on best practice guidelines.
  • Demonstrate or commit to developing cultural capability that supports an inclusive workplace compliant with the Human Rights Act 2019 and strengthens community partnerships preserving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural links.
