Background

UN Women is dedicated to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, aligned with the United Nations Charter. The East and Southern Africa region faces complex peace and security challenges including political instability, violent extremism, climate disasters, resource conflicts, economic disparity, and displacement affecting millions. Women and youth are largely excluded from peace and security processes despite their crucial role. In response, UN Women supports the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda through initiatives like the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) Rapid Response Window.

Role Summary

Under the guidance of the Policy Advisor on Women, Peace and Security, the WPS Programme Consultant will administratively and operationally support the ESARO WPHF project. The role involves assisting with coordination, information consolidation, and supporting programmatic, logistical, and financial activities to ensure smooth project functioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver administrative assistance for work planning, budgeting, and proposals related to program implementation.
  • Follow up on the execution of operational activities and support monitoring of the WPHF project work-plan.
  • Gather and consolidate program data and participate in operational meetings to enhance UN Women’s activities.
  • Support budget planning, tracking of financial resources, budget revisions, and financial reporting in line with organizational procedures.
  • Assist procurement and logistical arrangements for workshops, conferences, missions, and travel related to the project.
  • Maintain organized digital filing of project documents and correspondence.
  • Contribute to communications efforts by developing success stories, social media content, and documenting lessons learned.
  • Prepare concise meeting minutes and knowledge products such as policy briefs under the Policy Advisor’s direction.
  • Perform other duties essential for work efficiency as assigned.

  • Minimum secondary education completed; bachelor's degree or equivalent in social sciences, humanities, or related field preferred.
  • At least six years of progressively responsible experience in monitoring, reporting, and evaluation.
