Role overview
Wilmar Sugar & Renewables is hiring a Weighbridge Operator to support cane intake and yard movement activities at its Ingham, Queensland site. The position focuses on weighing incoming cane accurately, entering consignment details correctly, coordinating cane bin movement between full and empty yards, and keeping operations running smoothly. The role also includes maintaining communication with yard locomotives and the juice laboratory, supporting cleaning tasks, working in confined spaces when needed, and keeping records accurate and up to date.
Work location and lifestyle
The position is initially based at Macknade, Ingham. The Herbert Region is presented as a relaxed coastal area with island beaches and plenty of outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, hiking, and beach time.
Work pattern
This is a permanent factory-based role in a sugar processing environment. During the crushing season from June to December, the job requires shift work, including weekends and overtime. From January to May, the role moves to day work during the maintenance period.
Key duties
- Record cane consignment data accurately and maintain scheduled weighbridge test weight records while protecting the confidentiality of cane-related information.
- Keep the weighbridge area and nearby fixed plant clean and well maintained, including arranging cleaning schedules where required.
- Stay in regular contact with Cane Supply & Transport and Laboratory teams to support smooth operations.
- Provide clear, timely updates to Mill management on station performance and any quality concerns.
- Work toward completing the relevant sugar milling module competencies.
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will communicate well in both written and spoken form, including the ability to use UHF radio communication. A strong ability to work effectively with different people is important, and basic mechanical knowledge will be an advantage.

For the maintenance period, the following additional skills or credentials are viewed favourably:
- Trade qualifications
- Rigger high risk work licence
- Dogger high risk work licence
- Scaffolder high risk work licence
