About the Role

The Transit Driver role involves operating a bus to transport passengers along designated routes to local or distant destinations following a set schedule under general supervision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to local traffic laws and regulations.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip walk-around inspections of the bus.
- Report any route changes, delays, or accidents promptly.
- Manage fueling duties and perform routine checks of oil, water, and tire pressure.
- Carry out cosmetic maintenance tasks such as washing the bus exterior and cleaning the interior including sweeping and dusting.
- Drive buses over regular city routes and conduct special tours for educational or promotional events.
- Operate various equipment including gasoline, diesel, and electric vehicles, as well as communication devices like mobile radios, AVL terminals with keyboards, public address systems, and wheelchair securement devices.
- Use small hand tools and supplies, for example, a manual hand counter.
- Fill in different departmental roles as needed and perform other related tasks.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or its equivalent. Capability to successfully complete on-the-job training is required. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered if they provide similar skills.
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or higher, including passenger endorsement, without any restrictions on vehicles equipped with air brakes.
