Role Summary
The role entails designing, building, and refining interactive 3D web applications using Three.js, WebGL, along with modern web technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3. The developer will integrate 3D models and assets into frontend frameworks and optimize applications for performance across desktop and mobile browsers.
Key Responsibilities
- Create compelling and interactive 3D experiences with Three.js and WebGL.
- Handle all aspects of 3D graphics including scenes, lighting, shaders, textures, animations, and cameras.
- Work extensively with 3D formats such as GLTF, GLB, OBJ, FBX and related visual assets.
- Integrate Three.js components into frontend frameworks like React.js, Next.js, Vue.js, or Angular.
- Enhance rendering quality and speed for various browsers and devices.
- Implement user interactions including controls for camera, selection, drag/drop, zoom, rotation, and more.
- Collaborate closely with UI/UX designers, product teams, artists, and backend engineers to deliver seamless user experiences.
- Transform wireframes and design concepts into functional browser-based 3D apps.
- Identify and resolve issues in rendering, browser compatibility, memory management, and performance bottlenecks.
- Use APIs to dynamically load assets and data for interactive 3D features.
- Ensure code standards for quality, scalability, and maintainability.
- Keep abreast of advances in 3D web technologies including Three.js, WebGL, and emerging WebGPU trends.
Candidate Profile and Skills
- Expertise in Three.js and WebGL development.
- Proficient in JavaScript ES6+ and preferably TypeScript.
- Experience with React.js and related libraries such as React Three Fiber and Drei.
- In-depth understanding of foundational 3D graphics concepts: geometry, meshes, materials, textures, lighting, cameras, scene graph, raycasting, animation loops, and rendering optimization.
- Familiarity with 3D formats like GLTF, GLB, OBJ, FBX and optimization for web delivery.
- Knowledge of browser rendering pipelines, GPU performance tuning, and memory management.
- Bonus: Experience with 3D modeling tools like Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max.
- Competence in responsive design and cross-browser compatibility.
- Experience with version control systems like GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with React Three Fiber and WebGPU.
- Comfort with shader programming in GLSL and custom shaders.
- Background with physics engines such as Cannon.js, Ammo.js, Rapier, or PhysX.
- Development of AR/VR/XR applications using WebXR APIs.
- Worked on projects in product configurators, 3D e-commerce, architectural visualization, gaming, or simulation domains.
- Familiarity with animation libraries like GSAP, Framer Motion, or Anime.js.
- Utilization of performance and debugging tools such as Chrome DevTools, Spector.js, Lighthouse, or WebGL Inspector.
- Knowledge of backend API integration through REST, GraphQL, or WebSockets.
- Experience deploying applications on cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, Vercel, or Netlify.
Educational Background
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Game Development, Animation Technology, or closely related fields.
- Equivalent practical experience with a strong portfolio will be considered.
Mandatory Criteria
- At least 5 years of front-end development experience.
- Minimum 3 years hands-on with Three.js or WebGL.
- A solid portfolio or project links demonstrating 3D web development skills.
- Ability to produce highly optimized interactive 3D web experiences compatible with modern browsers.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Experience
- 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience.
- Background in domain-specific applications like configurators, simulations, AR/VR, or visualization platforms.
- Exposure to agile software development environments is advantageous.
