Role Overview

We are seeking a New Zealand-based Technician to join our team, focused on supporting growers locally. The position demands a strong foundation in electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems alongside excellent customer management and IT skills. This customer-focused technical role provides a platform for career advancement, working closely with the Commercial Director to grow market presence within New Zealand's horticultural sector, including travel opportunities to key regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gain comprehensive knowledge of Powerplants' products and horticultural sectors such as hydroponic vegetables, leafy greens, berries, nurseries, potted plants, cut flowers, vertical farms, and medical cannabis.
  • Undergo training in Australia and collaborate with the technical team to acquire hands-on installation skills applicable to New Zealand projects.
  • Build and sustain strong customer relationships through frequent face-to-face engagements.
  • Install and maintain a range of products, including greenhouse control and electrical systems, automated irrigation and fertilizer dosing, mechanization, and robotics.
  • Deliver technical support and assistance to customers, leveraging team resources.
  • Engage with a network of leading companies represented by Powerplants in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Participate in major industry events such as conferences, trade shows, and grower days alongside the commercial team.
  • Collaborate with the New Zealand Account Manager to identify new business strategies and growth opportunities.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Powerplants Technical Team and Commercial Director.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Formal qualification in a relevant technical discipline such as Electrical, Engineering, Electronics, or Horticulture.
  • Experienced with electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems in practical contexts.
  • Knowledgeable in programming and instrumentation logic.
  • Proficiency in Excel, CRM software, email communication, and general IT applications.
  • Valid driver’s license with the readiness to travel monthly or as needed.
  • Previous industry experience or a longstanding passion for horticulture is highly regarded.
  • Commercial sales experience is considered an advantage.
