Steward

Position Summary

The Steward role involves operating and maintaining various cleaning equipment such as dishwashing machines, hand wash stations, pot-scrubbing stations, and trash compactors. Duties include washing and sanitizing kitchen and storage areas, tables, tools, knives, and other equipment. The Steward also manages deliveries, ensures proper storage and rotation of perishables, and keeps clean wares correctly stored.

Using detergents, rinsing, and sanitizing chemicals within a 3-compartment sink, the Steward cleans dishes thoroughly by inspecting, stacking cleaned items, and returning soiled items for re-washing. Responsibilities also involve racking items and rinsing them with hot water to remove food residue, washing and re-washing silverware after soaking, and handling dirty bus tubs.

Furthermore, the Steward empties and maintains trash cans and dumpster areas, cleans and mops all assigned department areas, disposes of glass into proper containers, and breaks down cardboard boxes along with other recyclables for proper disposal.

The role requires adherence to all company safety and security policies, reporting maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions to management, and completing required safety training and certifications. The Steward must also protect company assets and communicate clearly and professionally with others.

This position encourages maintaining positive working relationships and supporting team objectives while meeting quality standards. Physically, the job requires the ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects up to 50 pounds without assistance and to stand, sit, or walk for long periods, including reaching overhead and below knees with movements such as bending, twisting, and stooping. Additional reasonable job duties may be assigned by supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

• No formal education such as a high school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
• No previous work experience related to this role is necessary.
• No supervisory experience is required.
• No licenses or certifications are required.
