Senior Software Engineer (12-Month Fixed Term)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced full-stack Senior Software Engineer for a 12-month fixed-term contract, ending June 2027, with a leading technology organization in Auckland, New Zealand. This role offers the chance to contribute toward critical digital infrastructure that supports national connectivity across Aotearoa New Zealand.

In this position, you will leverage your engineering expertise beyond typical commercial projects by working within a dedicated agile team. You will tackle real-world challenges using varied technologies to design scalable systems that handle vast amounts of data efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert architectural and technical guidance for designing systems and network data tools.
• Lead development projects from concept and research phases through scoping, coding, testing, and deployment.
• Collaborate closely with both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders in cross-functional teams.
• Develop clean, maintainable, and scalable codebases while establishing automated unit testing frameworks to uphold quality standards.
• Create clear and accessible technical documentation and proactively seek opportunities to improve existing code and DevOps workflows.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Valid New Zealand work rights are mandatory.
• This role is primarily office-based in Auckland with a hybrid work arrangement allowing two days of work-from-home per week.
• Proven professional experience developing with Node.js and Angular in production environments.
• Hands-on experience with multiple data storage technologies, particularly MongoDB and Elasticsearch; familiarity with MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability designing and consuming REST APIs and proficient source code management using Git.
• Strong focus on code quality, including setting up CI/CD pipelines and comprehensive automated unit testing.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a proactive attitude and capacity to work independently or partnered within a team.

Education
