Job description

About the Role

This position plays a vital role in shaping Auckland's future plans and developments by applying expert investigative and enforcement skills. Responsibilities include leading business improvement projects and conducting thorough investigations into serious breaches involving building regulations, pollution, resource management, and bylaws. Investigations focus on breaches of the Resource Management Act, Building Act 2004, and related legislation through site visits, evidence gathering, and appropriate enforcement or educational responses to ensure sustainable outcomes aligned with customer service standards.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in regulatory compliance and investigations particularly under the RMA and BA frameworks, with strong customer service aptitude. Excellent communication, maturity, and confidence in resolving inquiries and conflicts are essential. Key skills include high proficiency in PEACE interviewing techniques, handling evidence, preparing prosecution case files, and understanding court procedures. Demonstrated ability to mentor colleagues, manage escalated issues, and potential leadership within the team is highly valued.

A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Geography, Planning, or a related discipline is advantageous but not mandatory. At least five years of investigative experience in regulatory roles such as with Police, Customs, Fisheries, or similar fields is required. A current clean driver's license is mandatory.
